How to Record a Deed in Jasper County, Missouri

The Recorder accepts documents that meet Missouri recording law and the county’s published document-formatting standards.

Staff cannot prepare a deed, select a legal form or give an opinion on whether the transaction transfers ownership correctly.

  1. Prepare the appropriate deed.

Include the correct grantor, grantee, legal description and any necessary references to previous recordings.

  2. Complete signatures and acknowledgment.

Have the document properly signed and acknowledged under applicable Missouri law.

  3. Check first-page designations.

Identify the document title, date, grantors, grantees, statutory addresses, legal description and required book/page references.

  4. Verify document formatting.

Use standard paper size, required margins and legible dark printing.

  5. Calculate the recording fee.

Count pages and identify additional references or any nonstandard formatting charge.

  6. Submit the instrument.

Deliver it to the Recorder with the correct fee, either through an approved method or in person during recording hours.

Missouri deed formatting checklist

Paper size: 8½ × 11 inches, white or light-colored, 20-pound stock.

Ink: black or dark ink, printed on one side only.

Font: at least 8-point type.

First-page top margin: reserve three inches for recording.

Other margins: minimum ¾ inch.

Signatures: print or type the signer’s name beneath each signature.

Party designations: identify grantors and grantees explicitly.

Legal description: a street address alone is not sufficient.

Earlier references: identify prior books and pages when required for a release or assignment.

Open Official Document Formatting Standards ↗
After opening

Compare the first-page requirements, legal description and signature formatting with your deed. Correct missing information before submitting.

Nonstandard documents cost more.

A legally recordable document that fails applicable formatting standards can incur an additional $25 per-document charge. The Recorder may reject documents that do not meet statutory recording requirements.
